Yui began playing the violin at the age of 5. After moving to the States, Yui enrolled in the Juilliard Pre-College program and is continuing her studies at the New England Conservatory of Music Preparatory Program. Personal statement: Truthfully, playing the violin is such an individual, lonely experience- it’s very competitive in nature, and especially when we are younger, the focus seems to be on competition instead of collaboration. But music is supposed to be collaborative! There is nothing more beautiful and unique about musicians with different instruments, of different ages, and of different walks of life just combining together to produce music. It strikes down language and cultural barriers, which is what makes it so meaningful to me. There were so few windows for musicians during the pandemic, making it very hard to feel inspired and motivated, so I am very grateful for the opportunity to participate in this online music competition.
